Apr 30th, 2009 by savvyclub
Dear Friends and readers,
Â
The Season will soon be upon us. That’s right, the British Social Season that starts with the Chelsea Flower Show in Mid-May is close at hand, and it’s time to plan how you will spend your time this Summer.
Â
But what are the top class British social events that make up ‘The Season’? Here’s a short guide to this year’s must-be-seen-at events.
Â
The Chelsea Flower Show – 19th – 23rd May 2009
Enjoy a trip to the leading gardening show in the world. Chelsea welcomes Royals, Royal Horticultural Society members and the general public throughout this week, but tickets sell out quickly. RHS members can buy tickets in advance.Â
Â
Opera at Glyndebourne – From May 21st to August 30th 2009
Picnic in style as the best performers in the world perform this year’s repertoire from Verdi’s Falstaff to Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde at the legendary open-air opera venue. 2009 marks the 75th anniversary of this glorious British opera festival near Lewes, East Sussex. Book your tickets now!
Â
Epsom Derby - 6th June 2009
Dating back to 1780, the ‘Derby’ is the race that every jockey wants to win.  Ladies Day at Epsom is the day before the Derby, so if you want put on your posh frock and outrageous hat, that’s the day for you!
Â
Wimbledon – 22nd June – 5th July 2009
It isn’t a British summer without strawberries and cream at Centre Court. This year’s the first time the new retractable roof will be in use, but don’t let that stop you enjoying a soggy sing-along with Cliff Richard.
Â
Henley Regatta – 1st – 5th July 2009
Don’t miss the chance to see top class rowing, as teams from all over the world compete over the 1 mile and 550 yard course. Reserve a space in the Steward’s Enclosure if you want the most exclusive vantage point.
Â
Cowes Week 1-8th August 2009
A traditional part of ‘The Season’ since 1826, it is the largest sailing regatta in the world and the UK’s longest running sporting/social event. Spend the first week of sunny August, enjoying the pleasures of Cowes Week on the Isle of Wight.
Â
Last Night at the Proms – 12th September 2009
The Proms season begins in mid-July and runs until it’s famous final evening performance in September known to all as ‘The Last Night at the Proms’. This social event is seriously fun. End the Summer and ‘The Season’ in style this year, with a trip to the Royal Albert Hall and most popular classical music concert in the world.
