Ideas For Team Building Events
Nov 10th, 2009 by savvyclub
Dear Friends,
I know some of you may groan at the idea of ‘Team Building’ but with the right activity these afternoons, days and even weekends can be valuable, fun experiences.
The purpose of team building activities is to foster, within a group, the feeling of working together towards a common goal. It gives you a sense that achievement is possible when you are all playing to your strengths. Doing team building activities outside of a work environment can often show off talent that people never knew they had and make them more confident in future workplace challenges.
I’m not too fond of ‘classroom’ learning and you definitely don’t want to be doing tasks that are similar to your day-to-day work, so I am suggesting some alternative team building activities that I think you will want to try!
24 Hour Movie Remake
After a short introduction by the facilitator your group is split into two production companies. Each company has to choose a film that they are going to ‘remake’ in the next 24 hours. You will need to allocate a production manager, writers, actors, cameramen, director and editor to make your movie a reality. With all the equipment provided you just need to shoot the movie to be presented back to the other team in 24 hours time.
Although reluctant at the start you will find that eventually everyone takes their role fairly seriously – especially as the deadline draws near. An element of competition is really healthy and you will also have a great product to take away and bring out at staff parties in the future!
Flair for Cocktails
Everybody likes cocktails! If one of your group says they don’t, then this is their chance to change that. After a half-day session on the science of mixology and a few cocktail making demonstrations and tastings it is your turn. Either as individuals or as teams you attempt to create your very own unique cocktail, presented beautifully and with a great name.
If this isn’t enough, why not add on another half day of ‘Flair Bartending’ training. This is the kind of bartending made famous by Tom Cruise in ‘Cocktail’ and after learning a few basic moves you’ll be amazed at what you can pull together. For an extra challenge, teams can work on a short routine to perform at the end of the day…followed by a well-earned tipple!
Team building doesn’t have to be dull!
Kind regards,
