How to get a career in the Event Management Industry
Nov 24th, 2009 by savvyclub
Dear Friends,
When I began my career in events management, there wasn’t much help out there for wannabe events and party planners. The events management profession was still in its early development and one could learn only by doing.
To some extent it’s still like that now, it’s a vicious circle trying to get your first foot on the ladder, and I wish there’d been someone around then to help me with my first step.
I started out from scratch, basically volunteering my time, getting experience, planning and managing events and parties for my friends and colleagues. I literally jumped at every opportunity that came my way to organize and manage an event. I had such a passion and enthusiasm for organising events and parties that I knew it was the career choice for me.
At least there are courses available now, but since everyone needs to cram in the participants to make it profitable, I’m not too sure how much you can get out of it in a room full of people. Certainly there are degrees in Event Planning Management at universities and colleges which teach you the fundamentals, but in my opinion, Event Management is something that isn’t learned by rehearsing, practicing and pretending in a college environment, it’s learned by doing it for real, in the real world, where there are pressures and deadlines and demanding clients with real reputations at stake.
I receive a lot of emails and phone calls from undergraduates looking to learn more about the Event Management business and find out how to get their foot in the door, so to speak.
That’s why recently, I created a special 1-2-1 Event Management Masterclass that’s personally tailored for school-leavers as well as mature-students interested in a career in Events Management. In the masterclass, I use my 10 years of event management experience to help the individual to avoid the most common mistakes in the event management industry, whilst guiding them on the right course to an exciting career in this demanding business.
If you’d like to know more about the Events Management Masterclass, why not call me today on 0208 989 4886.
Kind Regards
Kim Rix
