World Water Day 2011 – Events To Make A Difference
Feb 8th, 2011 by savvyclub
Here at The SaVVy Club©, we’re always on the look out for events that are stylish, fun and unique, to tell our members about. We also like to hear about events that have an element of education attached – that will stretch our minds and teach us something new.
Have you heard of World Water Day? In a nutshell, World Water Day is an initiative that focuses on the battle for safe drinking-water, sanitation and basic health care around the world. In 1992, the UN General Assembly designated 22 March of each year as the World Day for Water.
Since 1995, fundraising events have been organized and hosted around the world. It’s amazing what people have come up with. Some events sound completely whackey, such as “Join the World’s Longest Toilet queue!” as well as some truly inspirational events.
A mystery magical water tour in New York city sounds intriguing but here in the UK, listed on the calendar for World Water Day 2011 is Singing for Water. Also, as a very keen underwater diver once myself, an event that has come to my attention is an underwater photography shoot. Buzz Aldrin is joining other celebrities such as Keira Knightley for a photo-shoot at The Grove, followed by an exclusive VIP evening event. You can call 01525 405 270 for more information if you’re interested.
So, is 2011 your year to make a difference? Are you feeling enthused to participate and help the cause? It’s worth noting that if you do organise an event, you can document it on the worldwaterday web site .
All the best,
Kim Rix

This year we’ve organised The World Walks for Water http://www.worldwalksforwater.org/eng , which is a global event from 19-22 March 2011. It aims to raise awareness of the global water and sanitation crisis to demand strong government action to stop the needless deaths of 4,000 children every day. The World’s Longest Toilet Queue was successful last year, and we hope that you join us in a 6km walk this march in your hometown!
